The baby was placed in the “Safe Haven Baby Box” at a Florida fire station earlier this year.
Various fire services utilize these boxes to let people surrender newborns who can’t be cared for.
On January 2, the silent alarm at 2:00 am informed the firefighter who was working the midnight shift that a baby had been left in the box.
“She had a little bottle with her and she was just chilling. I picked her up and held her. We locked eyes, and that was it. I’ve loved her since that moment.”
It turned out that he and his wife had been trying unsuccessfully to conceive a child for more than ten years and had been thinking about adopting. So, when he carried her to the hospital, he made the decision to adopt her.
