Most people in Malta have a connection to the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) without even realising it. From the chef at your favourite restaurant to the hotel manager welcoming you at check-in or the guide leading tours through Valletta, many of the professionals shaping Malta’s tourism industry began their careers at ITS.
Since opening its doors in 1987, ITS has helped build the country’s hospitality sector, with a 93% graduate employability rate and nearly 8,000 graduates over the past decade.
Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 academic year across the Luqa and Gozo campuses, with programmes available from Foundation level through to Master’s degrees, offered on both a full-time and part-time basis.
Among the most popular courses are the Bachelor in Culinary Arts, delivered in partnership with Institut Lyfe in France and featuring a semester abroad, and the Bachelor in International Hospitality Management, co-developed with Finland’s Haaga-Helia University. Students can also pursue careers in Events Management, Food & Beverage, Rooms Division and Travel & Tourism, while professionals already working in the industry can further their studies through the part-time online MBA in International Hospitality Management.
ITS also offers several unique programmes, including the world’s first Diploma in Climate-Friendly Travel, developed with SUNx Malta, and the only BSc in Diving Safety Management, created in partnership with DAN Europe. Other specialised courses include the Higher Diploma in Tourist Guiding and the online MA in Heritage Interpretation.
With many students securing employment before completing their studies, ITS continues to play a leading role in preparing the next generation of tourism professionals.
