Malta Wins Women’s Under 18 FIBA Basketball Games

Well done to our women basketball team!

On Sunday, there was cause for celebration in Malta as the Under-18 women’s basketball team clinched the gold medal at this year’s FIBA European Championships in Albania.

Throughout the tournament, Malta’s women, led by coach Giovanni Gebbia, showcased an outstanding performance, dominating their opponents to secure the top spot.

The final match was intense, with both teams struggling with accuracy, resulting in a low-scoring game. However, the excitement stemmed from the 13 lead changes that occurred during the match.

Consistent with their performance in the tournament, Danika Galea and Anna Fenech Pace stood out as Malta’s leading scorers on Sunday. Danika Galea, who earned the Most Valuable Player Award, led with 18 points and 10 rebounds, achieving a double-double in every game of the tournament. Anna Fenech Pace contributed 12 points, six assists, and four rebounds, while Sarah Fenech Pace added 11 points and four rebounds to Malta’s double-digit scorers.

On the opposing side, Albania’s Brikena Mucenji led her team with 17 points, and Anisa Bokrina also scored in double digits with 11 points.
