Australian Sailor And His Dog Survive 2 Months At Sea

What a miraculous survival!

Tim Shaddock, a 51-year-old Sydney resident, embarked on a voyage from Mexico to French Polynesia in April with his dog Bella.

However, their boat was damaged during a storm a few weeks later, leaving them stranded in the Pacific Ocean.

After being spotted by a helicopter, they were rescued by a trawler this week. The doctor aboard the tuna trawler reported that Mr. Shaddock is “stable and very well,” with normal vital signs.

During his more than 6,000km-long journey, Mr. Shaddock relied on raw fish for sustenance and rainwater for hydration. The ordeal left him leaner and sporting an overgrown beard when he was finally found off Mexico’s coast after two months.

In a video obtained by 9News, Mr. Shaddock expressed gratitude for his rescue, stating that he needed rest and nourishing food after being alone at sea for an extended period. Despite the challenges, he described himself as being in very good health.

Surviving on fishing gear and finding shelter under the boat’s canopy, Mr. Shaddock managed to avoid sunburn. Since his rescue, he has been seen smiling and wearing a blood pressure monitor on his arm, able to consume small meals.

The tuna trawler is now en route back to Mexico, where Mr. Shaddock will undergo medical tests and receive further treatment if necessary.
