Cillian Murphy Returning as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders Movie

Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby in a new movie coming to Netflix, produced in association with BBC Film.
 
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy told Netflix. “It’s very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This one’s for the fans.”
 
The film, set to begin production later this year, will be an epic continuation of the multi-award-winning, six-season gangster saga. Set in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934, Peaky Blinders chronicled the rise and fall of the Shelby family amidst radical social, economic, and political changes.
 
Harper, who directed episodes of the show’s first season in 2013, will helm the new film, working from a script by Peaky Blinders creator Knight. “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we knew there was something explosive in the cast and writing,” Harper said. “Peaky has always been a story about family, so it’s incredibly exciting to reunite with Steven and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences worldwide on Netflix.”
