According to a recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on March 1, for most people, money can indeed buy happiness 💸
In 2010, Kahneman and Angus Deaton found that happiness increased steadily with income up to a certain point, beyond which it plateaued. They concluded that emotional well-being tended to increase until people earned between $60,000 and $90,000, after which it remained stagnant. Their research was based on a daily Gallup survey of 1,000 Americans from 2008 to 2009 💰

In contrast, Killingsworth’s 2021 paper found that happiness consistently increased with income, with no plateau. His results were based on happiness ratings collected from over 33,000 Americans via a smartphone app, contradicting Kahneman’s research.
