A new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that friends are more genetically similar than random pairs of people, and about two-thirds as similar as married couples.

Researchers from Stanford, Duke, and the University of Wisconsin—Madison studied 5,000 pairs of adolescent friends and found that this genetic similarity, known as social homophily, explains why we bond with those who share our traits. 🤝
