Malta Created Launched To Support Local Filmmakers

The Malta Film Commission has launched a new initiative called “Malta Create” Short Film Fund, with the aim of nurturing and supporting emerging filmmakers in the local film industry.

The initiative seeks to encourage new talent and creativity, and contribute to the growth and development of the industry. With a budget of €100,000, the fund will provide financing for the production of a short film. Applications are now open until June 7th, 2023. A panel of film experts will evaluate the applications during the Mediterranean Film Festival, and the winner will be announced at the end.

According to Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech, the initiative is geared towards inspiring a new generation of filmmakers and crews. The Tourism Minister, Clayton Bartolo, emphasized that investing in local talent is a means of promoting the growth of Malta’s film industry and contributing to the cultural richness of the nation. The government is committed to providing more resources to strengthen the creative industry and support emerging filmmakers.
