Lionel Messi Wins Record Breaking 8th Ballon D’Or

The Ballon d’Or for 2023 was revealed last night, and Lionel Messi gained his eighth title, further extending his record…

This Argentine forward, who played for Paris Saint-Germain the previous season and currently represents Inter Miami, led Argentina to victory in the World Cup held in Qatar last December, ending their 36-year-long quest for the title. Messi, aged 36, now boasts three more Ballon d’Or victories than any other player.

Lionel Messi secured the Ballon d’Or 2023 during a ceremony in Paris on Monday, marking his eighth triumph in this prestigious accolade.

In the winter of last year, Messi served as the captain for Argentina during their triumphant 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, marking the first time they claimed the championship in 36 years.

In the momentous final showdown against France in December, the 36-year-old star managed to score twice, resulting in a 3-3 draw after extra time. He then clinched victory for his team in the penalty shoot-out and was rightfully named the player of the match.

During the 2022/23 season, in which PSG secured a league title, he participated in 41 matches, registering 21 goals and contributing with 20 assists.

Throughout the World Cup in Qatar, Messi found the net twice in the group stage and continued his scoring streak in each elimination round, recording goals against Australia, the Netherlands, and Croatia, culminating with a goal in the final.
