A tragic incident occurred at a construction site near Rabat, resulting in the death of a young worker four days after a fall.

Mohammed Kasem Hashem Alkhateeb, aged 26, sadly passed away, as confirmed by his friends on Facebook. Coincidentally, this announcement came on the same day as a vigil held in Valletta to remember another victim of a construction site accident, Jean Paul Sofia.

Following the loss of her son, Sofia’s mother is urging a public inquiry to prevent similar tragedies from occurring again. According to the police report, the recent accident took place on Thursday afternoon on Triq Alessandro Curmi in Rabat.

The victim, a 26-year-old Syrian national residing in Cospicua, sustained injuries after falling from a height equivalent to one storey while working. He was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately passed away in the early hours of Monday.

This incident was one of two construction site accidents last week, both leaving workers in critical condition and fighting for their lives.
