Uganda New Law Imposes Death Penalty On LGBTQ+

According to BBC News, only two out of 389 legislators voted against the anti-homosexuality bill, which criminalizes homosexuality and punishes those caught in a sexual act with death.

The legislation also criminalizes the promotion and funding of same-sex activities.

Lawmakers argue that the bill is in line with the religious views and beliefs of Uganda, a predominantly religious East African nation. The bill reads, “A person who commits the offence of aggravated homosexuality and is liable, on conviction to suffer death,” as reported by The Guardian.

During the parliamentary session, MP Musa Ecweru stated that homosexuals will have “no space in Uganda.” This controversial bill has sparked outrage and concern from many people both in Uganda and around the world.
