Penguin Swims 8,000Km To Meet Man Who Saved Him

Penguin Swim Man Saved

What a wholesome friendship!

Dindim, a Magellanic penguin, travels 5,000 miles by sea every year to see Joao Pereira de Souza, the man who saved his life.

In 2011, Joao discovered Dindim drenched in oil and almost dead. He cared for him in his island community outside of Rio de Janeiro and the two became inseparable.

Dindim stays with Joao for eight months of the year; the rest of the time, it’s thought, he spends reproducing off the coasts of Chile and Argentina.
