The anonymous man knocked down the wall in the 1960s to disclose a dark tunnel going to the ancient city of Elengubu, now known as Derinkuyu, in an effort to capture his escaping chickens.

The world’s largest subterranean city, Derinkuyu, is buried more than 280 feet beneath the Central Anatolian area of Cappadocia and is thought to connect to more than 200 other smaller, independent underground cities that have recently been found.
