An Italian student who vandalized the Ġgantija temples in Gozo has been fined €15,000 and given a suspended prison sentence.

Heritage Malta released a statement strongly condemning the act of vandalism, which caused irreparable damage by etching letters on one of the main doorways of the Neolithic monument that is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The 18-year-old student was caught in the act by a security officer while visiting the site as part of a school trip.
The youth admitted to the charges during an urgent session of the Gozo Court and was sentenced to a maximum of two years imprisonment suspended for four years, along with the hefty fine
