Record Of 200,000+ People Took The Bus On April 21

Malta Public Transport announced that a record-breaking 208,027 passengers used their bus services on Friday, April 21.
 
These figures surpassed the previous record set on Friday, October 4, 2019, by a significant margin of 4,500 passengers.
 
The surge in bus usage can be attributed to the introduction of free-of-charge bus rides for local residents in late 2022. This initiative aimed to promote public transportation and make it more accessible to the community.

According to the operator, a total of 5.4 million passengers traveled by bus during the month of April, maintaining a similar level of ridership as the previous month. When compared to the same period in April 2022 and April 2019, these figures reflected remarkable increases of 41.4% and 13.0% respectively.
 
Notably, over 4.2 million passengers utilized their Tallinja bus cards for travel in April 2023, signifying a substantial 31.7% rise compared to the same month in 2019.
