Man Fined $1.4M For Driving 90MPH In 55MPH Zone

Talk about a hefty fine 💸

In Georgia, a man found himself facing a hefty fine for speeding, clocked at a swift 90 mph in a 55 mph zone.

When he received a notification indicating a fine of $1.4 million, he understandably grew concerned. He promptly contacted a Savannah court to seek clarification. During the call, he expressed his disbelief, saying, “‘$1.4 million,’ the lady told me on the phone. I said, ‘This might be a typo,’ and she responded, ‘No sir, you either pay the amount on the ticket or you come to court on Dec. 21 at 1:30 p.m.'”

Nevertheless, local authorities later clarified that the eye-popping sum was, in fact, merely a “placeholder.” Joshua Peacock, a spokesperson for Savannah’s city government, explained to the Associated Press that the $1.4 million figure was automatically generated by an e-citation software as a temporary holding amount.
