Finland Introduces First Mobile Free Island

Need some time away from technology? Look no further!

An island in Finland is urging tourists to switch off their phones and embrace a digital detox this summer, aiming to become the world’s first phone-free tourist zone.

During the summer season, countless social media users capture and share their holiday experiences online. However, if you’re tired of the pressure to curate the perfect vacation Instagram or wish to disconnect from work-related emails during your time off, Ulko-Tammio island is the ideal destination for you.

Situated in the Eastern Gulf of Finland, this small island has designated itself as a “phone-free” zone. Mats Selin, representing the Visit Kotka-Hamina tourism board, explains, “The island of Ulko-Tammio, located off the coast of Hamina, will be a phone-free area this summer.” Travelers will be kindly asked to keep their smart devices in their pockets and detach from social media. It’s worth noting that the island still maintains a functioning mobile network.
