Cannabis Law In Malta Made Simple

Malta stands out in Europe as a trailblazer in cannabis legislation, being the first country in the European Union to legalize marijuana. In 2018, Malta took a progressive step by legalizing medical cannabis, and followed up in 2021 with the introduction of a limited recreational cannabis program.

Here is our law summarised!

1. Adults over the age of 18 can carry up to seven grams of cannabis in public


2. Adults over the age of 18 can grow four plants at home

3. If you are found to have 8 – 28 grams of cannabis  while in public, you may be fined €50 to €100 
4. You must be a Malta resident to get access to cannabis social clubs where the plant is distributed
