Time’s up for rental scooters! 🛴

As of tomorrow, e-scooter rentals will be prohibited on the streets of Malta. The Transport Ministry announced in October 2023 that starting March 2024, the rental of e-scooters would be banned.

In coastal towns like Sliema and St. Julians, pedestrians often reported issues with scooters being left in a disorderly manner, blocking pathways and entrances to garages and homes. Motorists have also expressed concerns to the press about scooters unexpectedly emerging, sometimes even going in the wrong direction, leading to numerous serious accidents. Earlier in the year, the government considered implementing designated parking areas for the 5,000 scooters on the island before deciding on a complete ban.
