Eight years after the shocking and heart-breaking news that Zayn Malik left the widely popular band One Direction, Zayn has spoken out on the real reason why he decided to leave the band.

“There was a lot of … politics going on,” Zayn said on a new episode of the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast. “Certain people were doing certain things, certain people didn’t want to sign contracts, so I knew something was happening, so I just got ahead of the curve. I was like, ‘I’m just going to get out of here. I think this is done.'”

Zayn was ready to start his own musical journey and decided to take the leap and begin his journey as a solo artist. While he recalled having a great time with the rest of the band, he noted that things had run there course and it was time for his new chapter to start.
