Foreign nationals applying for U.S. visas could now be denied if they have health conditions like diabetes or obesity, under new State Department guidelines from the Trump administration 🚫
The directive, sent to embassies worldwide, classifies applicants with costly medical conditions as potential “public charges.” It expands health checks beyond communicable diseases to include chronic and mental health issues.
Visa officers must also assess whether applicants can afford medical care.
Critics warn the policy could lead to bias, since officers aren’t medically trained to make such judgments.
