Marine biologist Alan Deidun recently shared on social media the discovery of a ‘snake-like’ jellyfish spotted in Maltese waters.
Identified as a siphonophore colony named Forskalea edwardsii, this jellyfish comprises a large colony of stinging cells fused together. Deidun explains that it is closely related to the Portuguese man o’ war, known for its deadly sting.

While the snake-like jellyfish may not be lethal, its sting is nevertheless excruciatingly painful. Growing up to 10 meters in length, this species is quite conspicuous.
