The quality of seawater for bathing in the Maltese islands is among the best in the entire European Union.

This is according to a report published by the European Environment Agency, together with the European Commission, which was released last Friday. The report is based on an analysis of all the coastal waters surrounding the European Union countries, conducted last year.

The report states that more than 94% of the sea quality around our country’s coastline is excellent. This signifies a classification of 82 out of 87 beaches in Malta and Gozo.

The report also indicates that five other beaches around the country are good or sufficient in quality.

The average rating for the quality of bathing water in the European Union is lower than our country’s rating.
