Female Frogs Fake Their Own Death To Avoid Men

A recent study reveals that female European common frogs employ rather dramatic measures to evade unwelcome male advances. 🐸

As per research published in the journal Royal Society Open Science, it was discovered that approximately a third of female frogs adopt a passive posture by lying on their backs to deter male mating attempts.

This defensive strategy is crucial as these female frogs can often face harm from persistent males during the breeding season, prompting them to devise protective tactics.

Aside from playing possum, scientists also documented two additional avoidance behaviours: emitting release calls and executing rotations to escape the clutches of pursuing male.
