A Comet Set to Pass Earth After 80,000 Years

In Fall 2024, a newly found comet might be as bright as a star in the night time.

This comet, named C/2023 A3, is currently 680 million miles away from the sun as of March 2023, but it is making its initial close approach to the sun in 80,000 years and will pass between the sun and Earth in September.

It will not be until October that the comet moves out of the sun’s glare, providing Earth’s residents with an opportunity to see it. Furthermore, it could be as bright as Venus in the night sky and will be visible to the naked eye.
