1 In 4 Highschool Students Identify As LGBTQ+

New data reveals that a quarter of high school students either identify as homosexual, bisexual, or are currently questioning their sexuality.

The CDC’s annual report surveyed 17,232 students and found that 75% of teenagers aged 14 to 18 are attracted exclusively to the opposite sex. Of the remaining respondents, 12% identified as bisexual, just over 3% as gay or lesbian, and 9% marked “other,” which includes individuals who identify as pansexual, asexual, or have “questioned” their sexuality.

This represents a record-breaking number of young people who do not identify as heterosexual, with approximately 1 in 4 students falling into this category. These figures continue to rise year after year, with a Gallup poll released in February reporting that 7.2% of adult Americans are “something other than heterosexual,” with the highest concentration belonging to Gen Z.
