YouTube Removes Dislike Counter Feature

YouTube is currently testing a new design that hides the public dislike count on videos in an attempt to discourage targeted ‘dislike mobs’ against certain creators and content.

The video streaming giant took to Twitter and shared, ‘Viewer feedback is an important part of YouTube, but we’ve heard from creators that the current experience can negatively impact their wellbeing’.

‘We also know that public dislike counts sometimes motivate targeted campaigns of dislikes on some videos.’, they added.

Whilst the number of dislikes on certain videos will be hidden from public view, creators can still see their exact number of likes and dislikes through YouTube Studio.

You can check out the preview of the new design on YouTube’s official Twitter. The experimental change will be applied to select videos in the following weeks.
