Earlier this year, in July, Heritage Malta managed to get their hands on one of Napoleon’s historic documents related to Malta’s history. In the original document, Napoleon commanded General Dasaix to start initiating a plan for the invasion of Malta in 1798.
The historic document is currently on display at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta and will remain there until the end of November. It will then find its home at the Maritime Museum in Birgu and will take centre stage in the newly renovated section dedicated to the French Period in Malta.
Heritage Malta presented a replica of Napoleon’s letter to the President of Malta, Dr. George Vella, whilst announcing the issue of another 40 replicas, which are up for sale to the general public (with all proceeds going towards the Malta Community Chest Fund).
The letter was presented to the President at San Anton Palace by Heritage Malta Chairman Anthony Scicluna, Executive Director Mario Cutajar, Chief Executive Officer Noel Zammit, Chief Operations Officer Kenneth Gambin, and Principal Curator at the Maritime Museum Liam Gauci.
As a commemoration of the historic document, Heritage Malta is issuing a limited number of replicas, enabling people to have a piece of history in their house whilst contributing to a good cause! You can purchase a replica on https://heritagemalta.org/.
