On September 30, 2024, Water Services Corporation (WSC) CEO Karl Cilia shared major updates on the 2023-2033 National Investment Plan, highlighting milestones in improving Malta’s water infrastructure.

Key achievements include:

• Network Efficiency: Increased to 72%, up from 52% in 2011.
• Leakage Reduction: Reduced to 9.5% of water production, down from 13%.
• AI-Powered Detection: Over 100 water misuse cases resolved, recovering €1 million in lost revenue.

In 2023, WSC billed 26.5 million cubic meters of water (9% more than 2022) and saw a 53% increase in profits to €6.2 million. The corporation also made significant progress with 100km network upgrades, reservoir renovations, and reverse osmosis plant improvements.

WSC is also leveraging cutting-edge AI for real-time water management and AR technology to map and monitor underground pipelines without excavation, reducing public disruption and improving maintenance.
