World Health Organization Advise Cancelling Events Now To End Pandemic

The World Health Organization says that in order to end the pandemic, we need to cancel all events right now.

This is mostly important now that Christmas and New Year’s are only a few days away. Although most of us are hoping that we get to enjoy some festive events and activities after another difficult year, WHO says that the best option is to cancel everything. With COVID-19 cases all around the world increasing dramatically over the past few weeks, some countries had to go back into lockdown to prevent spreading the virus further.

During a recent briefing, the Chief of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that difficult decisions now can possibly end the pandemic by the end of next year, otherwise we will face increased cases, overwhelmed health systems and more deaths. “An event cancelled is better than a life cancelled.”

He warned everyone that the Omicron variant seems more transmissible when compared to the original virus and other variants, “there is now consistent evidence that Omicron is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant.”

Evidence about the danger of this variant is conflicted with patients only suffering from mild symptoms. However, according to Imperial College London, Omicron can be just as dangerous as the Delta variant.

The WHO also said that they will try to control the virus by 2022. They hope to consign the disease to make it milder so that it can be easily prevented and treated. “If we can keep virus transmission to minimum, then we can bring the pandemic to an end.”

Controlling a virus with such a wide spread worldwide comes down to how much the people are willing to recognize the danger of the pandemic and remember that this virus is not behind us!
