Who Run The World? – International Day of the Girl 2020

On International Day of the Girl Child which is every year on the 11 October, girls demand a life free from gender-based violence, access to health, skills and recognition for all the challenges faced by girls all over the world.

There are many young activists which are working for equality. Watch this video to get inspired and get your voice out there!

Here in Malta, we do have our fair share of women and girls who are successful in their own right, and who should be of example to all the girls out there clearly showing that whenever you set your mind to achieve something, nothing should stop you from reaching your goal, and always aiming higher!

Christabelle Borg

If there is one young woman who is definitely a master at multi-tasking then that is definitely Christabelle. A singer, a songwriter, a Eurovision representative, a businesswoman, and a wife. At the Eurovision Song Contest, Christabelle sang ‘Taboo’ which was all about breaking the stigma which exists around the topic of mental health. She did this by also opening up about her personal experience and struggles. Apart from that, Taryn is very active on social media, and she is an avid traveller, which led to her recently launched Travel Blog ‘Taryn’s Travels’.

You won’t believe how much we found…🆙. . This weeks Tune in Tuesday is now up! 👀🎦🎞. This weeks episode is a pretty special one… we headed to Malta 🇲🇹 to work with @cami_appelgren_pd who manages @malta_clean_up 🏖 We also had the pleasure of being joined by @astevensonphoto and @harmonymcnulty from @bythecompassuk 🌊 To watch please follow the link in my bio! 🆙. . As you will see from this week's episode, Malta is an absolutely stunning part of the world, though, the plight of plastics in places was overwhleming. Malta is right in the middle of the Mediterranean, so gets hit with the brunt of marine debris 🗑. . In the video, you will see our trek's around Comino and Malta and how much plastic we encountered on both islands. You will also join us as we submerge into the crystal blue waters of the Med with Orangeshark Diving Centres to do a #DiveForDebris for @projectaware 💧. . On just one beach clean, on one beach, on one day, we found over 500 plastic bottles 🥤. . This is why the work of CaMi Appelgren and other volunteers is so essential. Malta is beautiful, but it will not stay that way if change does not come. . The same appies to wherever you may venture in life. If you wish it to remain beautiful, it starts with you. . . . . Special thanks to: @Cali_appelgren_pd and her family. @bythecompassuk @astevensonphoto @ramlabayresort Orangeshark Diving Centre – Alessio Tenenti @projectaware @batoko @waterlust @fourthelementdive @gopro @canonuk . . . . #beachguardian #plasticwaive #tuneintuesday #education #engagement #awareness #cornwall #vlog #vlogger #environment #conservation #plastic #vlogs #vloggers #vlogging #educational #beachcombing #environmental #marinebiology #vlogsquad #environmentalist #plasticpollution #beachcleanup #marineconservation #litterpick #EarthCapture @bbcearth #wonderlust #travel #malta #beachcleanup

These are just a little sample of the role models which young women and girls have here in Malta, and when coupled with the likes of Malala Yousafzai, Michelle Obama, and Greta Thunberg, then really and truly there is simply no excuse about it.

To all the girls reading this today. It’s ok to dream, it’s ok to have big aspirations. Don’t let anyone spoil them for you. Pursue them, believe in yourself, and you will succed, after all…who run the world? – Girls!
