Speaking to James Corden on The Late Late Show Whoopi Goldberg revealed that work has diligently started to get the Sister Act Gang Back together for the third instalment of Sister Act, nearly 30 years after Sister Act 2 was released in 1993.
She also revealed that she would also be keen on getting back in the habit as Sister Mary Clarence.
When James Corden asked Whoopi what has taken so long she said that the studio bosses never really wanted the third movie.
She said: “Because for a long time they kept saying no one wanted to see it and then quite recently it turns out that may not be true, people might want to see it. So we’re working diligently to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”
This is probably due to the reaction which audiences gave after the Musical version of the Movie, which Goldberg produced, hit Broadway and the West-End. Whoopi was actually part of the West-End version of the show as Mother Superior.
Whoopi was also due to star as Deloris for a Summer Special which had to be postponed!
But, back to Sister Act 3, Whoopi said that the movie series has the ideal recipe to make it a really fun movie – “it feels good and nobody’s mad, it’s just, like, listen, bad singing, great singing, ok singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”
