They were loved by many of us and regarded as a tourist attraction in themselves.
And now nostalgic footage of Malta’s charming vintage buses has gone viral on social media.
The video was shot around 20 years ago by Bay Retro fan Joe Scicluna using his trusty VHS camcorder.
It shows the much-loved buses on their daily routes from the main terminus at City Gate in Valletta to places as far afield as Cirkewwa, Bugibba, Mgarr and Marsaxlokk.
The bone-shaking, brightly painted vintage buses that were so characteristic of Malta were taken out of service in 2011, to be replaced by a modern fleet by Arriva.
Some routes were taken over by London’s old bendy buses after they were banned from the British capital’s streets by the city’s then mayor Boris Johnson.
