Mortal Kombat is officially back, and the newly released trailer is a total fatality. The much-anticipated live-action adaptation of the game will be releasing in April – and yes, it will be as brutal as its namesake. So, maybe skip on the movie snacks and expect some gore and blood on your screens.
Rest assured all your favourites are there. The roster of legacy fighters features the likes of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Kano, Kung Lao, and Raiden – all having been revealed as part of the roster of Mortal Kombat’s big reboot. However, Sub-Zero, played by Joe Taslim, easily steals the show with his iconic ice-capades being realised in such beautiful and bloody detail. We can also expect what looks to be like some surprise cameos in the trailer.
Film producer, Todd Garner, visibly moved, reacted in a tweet to all the fan reactions to the first trailer for the upcoming film.
MK fans. I’m watching your reactions to the trailer & I’m in tears. Sometimes fans forget that there are humans behind these movies & I personally had to be away from my family for almost 5 months to work on this. Your smiles & gasps have made it all worth it today. Thank you!

Garner’s fellow producer, James Wan, is quite familiar with the R-rated gore that this film promises, having worked on The Conjuring series as well as Saw. Between the two of them, it’s hard not to expect a masterpiece come April.
The film is actually a reboot of the original live-action adaptation released back in 1997. Thankfully, the 2021 version is already proving the be the better rendition out of the two.
The film will be coming out simultaneously in theatres as well as on HBO Max in April. So, you just might be able to catch it on the big screen at Eden Cinemas as well.
