Here to promote a message full of hope is the latest project, ‘Shout Out for Mental Health’, which was supported by Il-Premju tal-President ghall-Kreattivita, which was also partially run by the office of the President, as well as Arts Council Malta.
‘Shout Out for Mental Health’ engaged weekly therapeutic group sessions with young people through the use of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). During this period, a song was also developed to reflect the feelings and experiences of children and adolescents who ‘sought mental health support in the community or required hospitalisation at the time of the project.’
The youth highlighted that no matter what, there will always be tough moments and struggles in life. However, they emphasised how vital it is to speak up, talk to others, or seek help when passing through a hard time because there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel and one should never give up.
This project also collaborated with beloved, local singer Gianluca Bezzina and songwriter Paul Bezzina. Together, alongside the YPU team, they led the weekly groups and eventually, wrote and recorded the song!
They shared, ‘We hope that through this song we can raise awareness about mental health in children and adolescents and reach out to those young people who are encountering mental health difficulties but are apprehensive in reaching out for help.’
