Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber have just dropped their new collaborated track “Monster”, a song that addresses the pitfall of fame.
The song is taken from Mendes’ new studio album Wonder, which is due for release on December 4th. In the accompanying music video, Mendes walks through a park late at night. As the fog rolls in, he comes across a platform in which he crosses paths with Bieber. As they exchange verses back and forth, they confront the downside and anxieties of fame: “But what if I what if I trip?/ What if I, what if I fall?/ Then am I the monster?”, they sing.
Besides his upcoming album, Shawn Mendes will also be releasing a documentary on Netflix, In Wonder, on November 23rd. It centers itself around how he rose to fame from promising singer and songwriter, to a world-renown pop artist. The documentary also deals with the anxieties that come with being a celebrity and constantly being in the public eye.
As for Justin Bieber, he recently released Lonely with Benny Blanco and Holy with Chance the Rapper. This follows his album “Changes”, which arrived last February and was his first album in 5 years.
