Since 2020 meant that no one could fly over to London to watch a proper show, or head to Valletta or Ta’ Qali to watch a local musical production, the lovely people at Netflix and Ryan Murphy are bringing us what is definitely going to be one of the best feel-good movies for 2020. The movie adaptation of Broadway’s The Prom.
After the teaser trailer was released in October focused on the “Zazz” of it all, the new trailer dives more into the plot itself: a group of out-of-work Broadway performers come to a small Indiana town to help a girl who’s barred from bringing her girlfriend to the prom.
Now hearts of musical theatre fans all over the world are bursting after this new trailer has been released, literally moments ago. It includes a sneak peek at newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman singing, along with show-stopping moments from Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon), Keegan-Michael Key, and Ariana DeBose.
The Prom opened on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre on the 15th November, 2018, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, who returns to choreograph the movie. Book writer Martin also pens the screenplay for Netflix, with all of Beguelin and Sklar’s score intact.
The Prom is coming to Netflix on the 11th December 2020.
