A live-action Assassin’s Creed series is coming to our screens, thanks to a confirmed collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft, and believe me I’m stoked! I’m clearly not the only one, since Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television, also shares my excitement:
“We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next stage in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”
Assassin’s Creed is one of those names that even the most casual of gamers have heard about, and rightly so! The concept of playing as a parkour-master, stealth ninja Assassin warrior wearing a hood and cape would excite practically anyone.
Now, the Assassin’s Creed universe will stretch beyond the gaming market, and slip into the series business to appeal to those of us who would rather watch this ruthless mercenary perform his tasks rather than interact with him, which is perfectly exciting too!
Of course, the series is still in early development, but baby steps are steps nonetheless!
The Assassin’s Creed franchise has a long history and a massive fan-base. Videogame giant Ubisoft proudly holds the title of creators of this franchise, with an impressive 11 games making part of the Assassin’s Creed saga.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise has recently moved from consoles to the big screen, with the release of the feature-length film with the same title in 2017. This movie holds a special place in our Maltese hearts since they filmed parts of the film here in Malta! I bet most of us remember when we had the honour of hosting the production team of the movie when they were filming in Valletta back in 2017.
So, who knows, before we know it we might have more film crew populating our gorgeous cities and making it impossible to drive through Valletta for months!
