WATCH: NASA Makes History After Successfully Flying First Ever Aircraft on Mars

NASA has made history once again after successfully flying the first-ever aircraft, Ingenuity, on Mars!

The craft was allegedly airborne for under a minute, marking the very first powered, controlled flight by an aircraft on another planet. In the footage, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA JPL) team can be seen applauding after a satellite gave them confirmation.

Mars Helicopter Project Manager MiMi Aung then thanked the team for their hard work, remarking, ‘We’ve been talking for so long about our Wright brothers moment. And here it is’.

Accompanying images also show the little helicopter casting a shadow on the surface of Mars, while NASA JPL shared, ‘Perseverance got us to Mars. With Ingenuity, we soar higher. The #MarsHelicopter made history today by being the first craft to achieve controlled, powered flight on a planet beyond Earth.’

Ingenuity will now be given commands to fly higher and further, with engineers looking to explore its limits.
