WATCH: Michelle Obama Shares Special Message to Young Girls: ‘You Never Stop Becoming’

Former first lady Michelle Obama has released a video to mark two new editions of her bestselling memoir, Becoming, sending a reassuring message to young girls all around the globe!

She began, ‘It is okay not to know who you are or exactly what you want to be or do right now’. Obama then added that she had talked to several young people and noticed how many ‘feel like somehow they should know the answers to all of these fundamental questions now.

But no one, she reassured, is supposed to have all the answers, ‘And if you’re my age or older, you kind of chuckle at the notion that somehow or someday you wake up and the fog goes away, and life is all just clear but the process of becoming yourself doesn’t work that way. Because, as I’ve always said, the process of becoming isn’t finite.’

She continued, ‘It’s not like you wake up one day and you are who you were intended to be and that is that. It is a process … You never stop becoming. Just imagine if the opposite were true. Just imagine if one day it’s it — you’ve learned all that you’re going to learn and that is all. That’s sad.’

She then went on to explain that personal goals might change over time and told her young readers that they will learn lessons and ‘shake off vulnerabilities’ with age.

‘All of that is coming. And all of that will continue to happen for you throughout your life. It happens to me even today. And I hope that in 10 or 20 years I’m still learning and growing and making mistakes that teach me something deeper about myself.’

Meanwhile, Obama has encouraged readers to share their experiences reading her book by using the hashtag  #IAmBecoming and tagging her in their posts!
