Marvel Studios is marking its first Asian superhero movie, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, featuring Simu Liu, comedian Awkwafina, Tony Leung, and more.
We might still be waiting for Spider-Man 3, which is set for debut later on this year, but Marvel has now unveiled the official trailer for this martial arts adventure with a nearly all-Asian cast.
Liu took to Instagram to share his excitement, just in time for his birthday, writing, ‘You know… I never saw myself as the hero of my own story growing up. I struggled to find any Asian characters onscreen, and there were fewer still that made me feel truly proud of my heritage.’

‘It’s absolutely insane to think that in just over four months, we will have a Marvel movie featuring an almost entirely Asian cast, each full of rich nuance and dimensionality.’, he added.
Meanwhile, Awkwafina will appear as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, while Leung will play the superhero’s father, Wenwu. The story will follow Shang-Chi’s struggles in confronting his past as he comes across a mysterious organization called the Ten Rings.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to premiere on September 3.
