SBS sat down with a Maltese-Australian nanna, Anne, who reveals how family, recipe, and resilience helped shaped her life!
As she shows us how to make her iconic rabbit stew, passed down from her mother, she discusses her journey to Malta and how she met her late husband, who passed away just 6 days before his 76th birthday and whom she misses dearly.
Although she relates that ever since his passing she often finds herself lonely, she also reveals how her family helps her through it all, ‘It’s when all the family is here that I am very happy’, she remarks, which is usually every Sunday.
Anne is a mother of four kids, the grandmother of eight grandchildren, and the great-grandmother of two grandkids. She left Malta when she was just 16 years old to move to Australia, then she met her husband at 21 and married him a year later.
Needless to say, we totally agree with SBS when they say that ‘Food is life when you have a Maltese nanna cooking in the kitchen’.
