Maltese Athlete Marie Claire Aquilina on Sunday wrote history as she cycled 69 laps of Pinellu Hill in Mellieha in 14 Hours, reaching a height of 8900m, and a distance of 290km.
This is the height of Mount Everest and in fact, Marie-Claire became the very first Maltese athlete to ever finish Everesting.
Maire Claire battled high winds, fatigue as well as dangerous fast cars which were ‘racing up Pinellu hill with no respect for cyclists,’ as fellow athlete Fabio Spiteri wrote on Social media.
Fabio Spiteri in fact joined Marie Claire together with other cyclists, who took off with her on Saturday evening at 17:15. The other cyclists were not able to keep up with Marie Claire who finished the challenge on Sunday at noon!
