The Christmas number 1 has been a long-held momentous achievement for any artist wishing to make it big in the British music industry. Queen, The Beatles, Spice Girls and many others have all taken the prize in the past.
Up until a few days ago, the main contenders for the 2020 Christmas Number 1 in the UK were Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You and LadBaby’s Don’t Stop Me Eatin’. The former only secured the top spot in the UK chart for the first time ever this month, albeit it being an international Christmas hit.
LadyBaby on the other hand, is no stranger to the number 1 Christmas spot. Their 2018 and 2019 sausage-roll themed charity singles made it to the top twice, and this year, he’s joined by Ronan Keating as he tries to make it three consecutive wins.
Now, It’s fair to say that 2020 has been a highly…unusual year for all of us. But it has been a particularly turbulent year in U.K. politics with Prime Minister Boris Johnson often coming under fire over his handling of Covid-19 and Brexit negotiations.
And now, an explicit song by cult UK act The Kunts is currently in fourth place in the UK iTunes charts, and seems to be rising in popularity and could make it all the way to the top by Christmas day. The 82-second song features one line repeated over and over again and a particularly offensive swear word.
BBC Radio 1’s Katie Thistleton has already declared that should the song feature in the top 10, the station will not play it since it has “so many bad words in it”.
What do you think of the possibility of THAT song making it to number one? Have a listen…
WARNING! The Song Contains Language which is of an Offensive Nature (ESPECIALLY if you are Boris Johnson). But seriously, NSFW!
