Addressing a Joint Press Conference with DPM Chris Fearne and the Superintendent of Public Health, Prof Charmaine Gauci, PM Robert Abela said that from the 5th June, Malta will embrace Normality as the last set of measures which were taken in view of the COVID-19 Outbreak will be lifted. The Prime Minister also announced that today week, Monday 8th June, the Government shall be launching a special, multi-million mini-Budget.
Dr Abela said that some mitigation protocols will still need to be in place in this new norm, such as social distancing, personal hygiene and the wearing of masks.
The Prime Minister, also confirmed that the 1st July will be the day when Malta’s Airport and Ports will open, with flights to and from 19 Different Countries. These countries are:
The Prime Minister also said that as at 5th June, all vulnerable people should return to work. Prof Charmaine Gauci and DPM Chris Fearne explained that this is all due to the fact that the R-Factor currently stands at 0.5.
The Prime Minister also said Child Care Centres, will be opening – and DPM Chris Fearne also said that in the coming days, the Archdiocese of Malta will be announcing details about the resuming of Masses in Churches around Malta and Gozo. On Other Educational Institutions, The Prime Minister said that the plan is for these to reopen in September
Professor Charmaine Gauci said that while all measures are now being lifted, Mass Events still cannot be held for the time being. The same goes for contact sports, the resuming of which, the Prime Minister said, will be announced at a later date.
