After three nights, the first edition of ‘Muzika Muzika – Festival Kanzunetta Maltija’ came to a glorious end tonight, as Glen Vella was crowned the winner with Harsa Biss, as the votes of the jury and the public televote were added and verified. Glen Vella won the televote while Christian Arding won the jury vote and ended up in second place after the votes were all announced.
Muzika Muzika celebrated the comeback of the singing festival, for songs in the Maltese language, with the last edition being held eight years ago. The festival opened up last Thursday as 20 songs competed in the semi-final. On Friday, the organisers delighted the 90,000 viewers with a walk down memory lane, as the semi-finalists were joined by some of Malta’s legends to perform duets of some timeless classics.
At the end of Friday’s show, the 12 finalists were announced, and this evening, they performed their songs one final time, before it was time for the results to be announced. Glen dedicated his win to all those who love the Maltese music scene, and to all the musicians and performers who were badly hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Muzika Muzika was also the first festival, in a long time, to have a full live orchestra which gave more prestige to the festival, and many were those who commented that it was giving them all the Italian Sanremo feels.
