WATCH: Girls Donate Their Hair to Be Turned Into Wigs for Cancer Patients

Yesterday, a group of girls who have just had their Holy First Communion decided to come together in one stunning gesture. They all donated their hair to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation so that this can then be transformed into wigs which are then distributed by the Foundation to Cancer Patients of all ages.

Yesterday, they had quiet an eventful day as they met H.E. Dr George Vella, President of Malta and Mrs M Vella, First Lady, at San Anton Palace!

Speaking to the girls at San Anton Palace, the President spoke of all the pain and suffering which sick patients go through, including cancer patients, and how the MCCFF is helping them, even by providing them with wigs.

“Thank you and Well Done for thinking of others. Anyone can get sick, but it is truly commendable that you are already understanding what society around us needs. The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation helps a lot of different people, and this is why we appreciate everyone’s contribution so that everyone can live in the dignity that he and she deserves,” the President said, whilst adding that their gesture reflects a sense of love and social responsibility.

Ms Matilde Balzan, who handles the wig distribution at the MCCFF, said that over the past six years, the Foundation has distributed some 800 wigs to all those who needed them, due to various health conditions. Ms Balzan thanked MaltaPost and Caruana Shipping, for their voluntary help in sending the hair donations abroad so that they can be then transformed into wigs.

At the end of the ceremony, the First Lady, Mrs Miriam Vella presented a certificate and a small gift as a token of their noble gesture.
