Warner Bros has shared the trailer for The Witches, the forthcoming remake of the 1990 dark fantasy based on the children’s book of the same name by Roald Dahl, ahead of its release in the coming weeks!
In the trailer we see a peroxide-blonde Oscar Winner Anne Hathaway don the hat of the Grand High Witch, which was originally played by Anjelica Huston.
The amazing Octavia Spencer, who we have recently seen in the Netflix Drama ‘Self Made’, also stars as the doting grandmother of a young orphaned boy portrayed by newcomer Jahzir Bruno, with comedian Chris Rock voicing his character as an adult.

We’ve also got a glimpse of the marvellous Stanley Tucci – who previously featured alongside Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada – as he steps into the shoes of the hotel manager who unwittingly hosts the witches’ convention.
Other names on the cast list include Kristin Chenoweth, from the Broadway Smash Hit Wicked, and Codie-Lei Eastick, while Robert Zemeckis has been in the director’s chair – so, in a way, we know that after what he has managed to achieve in The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol this movie is going to have bucketloads of state-of-the-art visual effects, the same kind he’s become known for.
The ‘darkly humorous and heartwarming’ storyline of the movie, follows the character of the orphan boy as he goes to live with his loving grandmother in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis.
As they encounter a group of ‘deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches‘, the boy’s grandmother wisely takes him away on, let’s say, a vacation, to an opulent seaside resort.

However, as they arrive, they come to realise that their stay at the resort, coincides, accidentally, with a worldwide undercover witches gathering, led by Hathaway’s Grand High Witch, who has a couple of ‘nefarious plans’ on her agenda.
The Witches drops on HBO Max this Halloween, however, Warner Brothers also intend to release it to cinemas worldwide.
