Malta’s drivers have been warned to expect delays on ‘Frantic Friday’ when the last of the year’s commuter traffic will clash with the start of the Christmas holidays.
Major traffic jams are expected in St Julian’s, Marsa, Hamrun, Qormi, Birkirkara and Sliema on December 22.
Tens of thousands of people driving home from work will be forced to battle for road space with other motorists heading to shopping centres or visiting friends and family.
The worst hold-ups are expected to occur between 4pm and 8pm.
A Transport Malta source told 89.7 Bay: ‘Things tend to get worse on the roads on the last working day before Christmas, with Frantic Friday this year falling on December 22.
‘We strongly urge drivers to expect delays or avoid travelling this day if they possibly can.’
