A waiter was shot dead by a customer who lashed out because he was kept waiting for a sandwich.
The 28-year-old victim was hit in the shoulder and died at the scene.
It happened at the Mistral pizza and sandwich bar in the Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Grand.
The gunman, who a witness said lost his temper ‘as his sandwich wasn’t prepared quickly enough’, fled the scene.
A murder investigation is under way.
Horrified Paris residents gathered outside the Mistral in the aftermath of the shooting on Friday.
One said: ‘He was killed for a sandwich?’
Another added: ‘It is sad. It’s a quiet restaurant, without any problems. It just opened a few months ago.’
Some residents, however, said there had been an upsurge of crime in the area with an increase of drug-dealing and drunkenness on the streets.
